And so it begins....

The bike definitely needs some polishing, but the engine sounds great. It has 8,000 original miles! First on the list is the gas tank. As expected, the inside of the tank is completely rusted. I considered electrolysis, but didn't have access to a battery charger today. I didn't want to go out and buy one either. Some might call me cheap. So, I took an alternative route starting with a simple soap and hot water rinse. After a few flushes I added screws to the tank to really agitate the rust. Now the tank is sitting over night with a chemical wash. I can't wait to see how it cleans up in the morning. I have also started to tear the bike down. I didn't get much done there cause it was date night (gotta suck up a little for coming home with a bike).

Yesterday I bought a 1981 cb900f, and yes, it caused a fight with my wife. I think she is over it now :) This will be my first attempt at a cafe racer build. I pretty much have the bike planned out as to what I want the final product to look like, but I'm sure I will find inspiration here and there as the project progresses. I imagine this build will take me quite a long time since it is my first, and spare time is hard to come by lately. Nevertheless, I am determined to see it through. Here is what it looked like after getting it home and off my truck......
